Link Warnings

Some links I've put up go to mature sites [for older teen audiences, NOT adult audiences! x_x]. The content isn't too extreme or disgusting but you will bump into stuff that will scare you. o.o" These symbols I've made are here to warn you when you hover over the link. If it's unmarked, it's safe. If not...

[X] - This means there's some mature content in here. [Blood, horror, etc]

Unmarked - It's totally safe. Nothing scary here. :]

Credits - If I've put something like © Yukino or name like that, then I'm just crediting myself or someone else.

A Short Trip

Today is Thanksgiving. Since we already had our huge Thanksgiving dinner, we decided to go on a short trip.
We were going to see the maple leaves. It's fall in Canada right now.

We drove for what seemed to be an hour. My brother and I were bored.
My head rested in my hands. My brother had fallen asleep. As we drove past trees and farms, we came to a very strange hill. It zigzagged as you drove down, and the hill was very steep. "Whoa!" I looked downhill. "What's with this hill?"
"This isn't a safe road. We're going to have to drive slowly.", Dad said.
"COOL!!", my brother exclaimed.
"What?" I looked at the side of the road. There was a huge shale.

There were huge heaps of rock everywhere. This place was called the Cheltenham Badlands.

“Badlands” is a geologic term for an area of soft rock devoid of vegetation and soil cover that has become molded into a rolling landscape of rounded hills and gullies. Such areas are rare in Ontario and this is one of the best examples. They exhibit the reddish hue of the Queenston Shale that forms them. It is the presence of iron oxide in the shale that accounts for the red colour. The narrow greenish bands that can be seen throughout the shale are due to the change of red iron oxide (iron III) to green iron oxide (iron II) brought on by the circulating groundwater. The relatively soft shale is essentially clay and easily eroded by water. This site was acquired by the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 2000 and is under the care of the Bruce Trail Association.

I got that paragraph from Toronto Hiking[dot]com.

There were a lot of people exploring the shale. Kids were running around the small hills and tourists took lots of pictures.

"Dad, can we check that place out? Please?", I pleaded.
"Sure. Let's find a place to park first.", he answered.
"That place looks like where those bikers do tricks and stuff.", my brother commented.
"Uh huh."

When we got out of the car, it was really hot. I started sweating.
"Wow, it's fall and it still feels like summer!"
"Yeah! It's really hot!"

As soon as we stepped into the badland, my brother took a big leap and landed on one of the huge rocks. He dashed off. "Hey you! Wait up!", I called after him.
He didn't listen and kept running. That kid...
As we walked on the rocks, we came across steep ditches and gullies. Sometimes the long rocks would get skinnier and skinnier, then bigger and bigger. We passed by tourists, even a model! Photographers were taking pictures of this model. She made weird poses with a rope...

We eventually reached the top of the whole shale.
"What a great view!", I breathed.

Dad had a puzzled look on his face.
"What's up, Dad?"
"I'm trying to figure out how this place ended up like this."
My eyes wandered around, until I spotted a small sign.
"Hey, that sign over there might tell us what this place is made of."
"Yeah, go read it."
I ran to the sign and read what was on it. The sign explained where we were.
Thousands of years ago, the Cheltenham Badlands was filled with water. It was once part of the sea. Water used to flow in the ditches we saw.
Eventually, the shale dried up. And it turned into the Cheltenham Badlands.
My dad came and read the sign.
After a while, he decided to take pictures of us. Then he took pictures of the badlands.

After we took the pictures, we went further and stopped by a closed grocery store. We parked the car and sat on some benches to munch on snacks.
Then we left for home.

Yeah that's basically it.

See ya.
